This week was spent working with high school students from Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia.  They came to Matamoros for their Spring Break and have been such a blessing to me.  Even though it has been incredibly hot and exhausting, I have learned so much this week.  To be honest, I felt a little bit like Moses.  People were asking things of me and I wasn’t sure if I was equipped or qualified to do those tasks.  Because of the large number of students, there were not enough translators to go out with each group.  It turned out that every day I ended up being the translator for the group I was working with.  So whether we were working on construction at the time, handing out water, playing with children, or visiting with families, I was the group’s translator.  At the beginning, I was absolutely overwhelmed.  In my mind there’s so much I don’t know…so much more I want to learn.  But what I learned this week is that God equips us to do what He calls us to do.  When He asks me to do something, He also gives me the ability to do it.  His strength is made perfect in my weakness.  It’s amazing because even though I’m not fluent and there are so many words I don’t know, God gave me all I needed (and more) to be able to translate for the students.  I learned to trust Him and to step out in faith and do what He’s asked me to do – even though sometimes I don’t know how it will work out.  For me it was a great growing experience learning to trust God and stepping out in His strength to do something I wasn’t completely comfortable with.  And I also have a new appreciation for translators.  It’s a hard, exhausting job, but I really enjoyed it this week.  Praise God for His strength and for the way He can display that in my weaknesses.  It’s so cool how God chooses to use us and how He is strong in and through us.  This is about Him and I want Him to receive all the glory.  He proved Himself mighty this week (as He does on a daily basis), and it was great to be a witness to that.  I hope that people didn’t see very much Abbey this week and I hope they saw a whole lot of Jesus.
