I have been reminded of God’s amazing love lately. This week we are staying at The Gateway (AIM’s base in Mexico) and we are working with a youth group from Alabama. We’ve been doing VBS in different colonias and they’ve also been building two houses. Many of the students felt inadequate or discouraged because of language and cultural barriers. So often I feel the same way. There are times when I get so frustrated because I can’t understand or express myself as completely as I would like. Other times I wonder what I could possibly offer. The coolest thing, though, is that the love is Christ is bigger than any barrier in the world. There is no language barrier or cultural barrier or relational barrier that is too big for Him. He is way above and beyond the walls and obstacles that many times hold me back. His love is wide and long and high and deep – it surpasses knowledge (Ephesians 3:18, 19). I can’t begin to pretend that I understand it, and any attempts at putting it into words would fall embarrassingly short. All I can say is that there is something so great in His love – even though I only comprehend a small part of it. I’m astounded that it goes so much further than I can imagine. And nothing in the world can stop it. Inabilities can’t stop it. Misunderstandings can’t stop it. Failure definitely can’t stop it. Fill in the blank – whatever it may be. Nothing can stop His love. As much as I try, I’ll never fully get it. But I’m learning so much and I’m excited. Knowing that there are absolutely no limits to God and His infinite love is awesome. There is no place out of the reach of His great love – it reaches to the heavens (Psalm 36:5). No matter where I go or what I do, His love is there. How cool is that?! I feel like I’m just going in circles and saying the same things over and over again, but I can’t express His love and what it has meant for me personally to know I am loved unconditionally and eternally. He loves me like no one else can. It’s too great for words and way outside of my ability to understand. I know for certain that His love is the greatest thing I will ever experience, and that nothing I encounter – no matter how difficult – will be bigger or stronger than His unfailing love for me. He is so good and I am so unworthy of His love – but that’s what makes it even more incredible.
Isaiah 54:10 – “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet MY UNFAILING LOVE FOR YOU WILL NOT BE SHAKEN nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
