Well, we´re finally in Mexico and I´m sitting in an internet cafe in Matamoros. I absolutely love the city already. The name of our colonia (neighborhood) is La Libertad, which means “freedom”. I think that´s really cool because “where the spirit of the Lord is there is FREEDOM”. Since we arrived in Matamoros last Wednesday, we have been settling in and getting used to each other and life here. On Friday and Saturday we split up and did a scavenger hunt type game to get acquatinted with the city. We rode buses and went downtown to Juarez Market. It was awesome. I love being able to be part of the culture by using public transportation. It´s lots of fun. On Saturday we had to take a bus to the US border, cross the border, eat lunch in Texas, and cross back into Mexico. That was crazy!! Getting into the US was difficult – we waited in line for over an hour. This week we will be working on choosing our internships and starting ministry. I am excited to see where God will lead me as I go through the process of deciding what ministry to be part of for the semester. I will do my best to update you all as much as possible. Please keep me in your prayers especially this week as I seek the Lord´s will for this semester of ministry. Also, please pray for me as I attempt to use my Spanish as much as possible. Ask that the Lord would help me to remember what I´ve learned, and that He would grant me the ability to soak in as much as possible.

I am so excited for you. I will pray for direction and great language recall. Grace and Peace,
Mrs. Benefield
Great to hear from you. I will pray for the Spanish and wisdom and courage as you seek where Christ wants you serve this semester.
Thanks for the update.
Hi, I am Matt’s mom. Just finished reading your blog and can feel how much you want to share God with the people of Mexico. I put the whole team’s blogs on alert so that I can keep up to date on specific prayer requests. I lived in Mexico City for one year while in college. The one thing I can tell you is to not worry too much about the language. The people will be happy that you are making the effort to communicate in their language and will help you.You will learn so much! Uplifting you daily in prayer.
