Okay – so it’s not the Harvard you’re thinking, but I’ll be interning at a bilingual school called Harvard this semester. The school goes from preschool through ninth grade, and all of the teachers speak Spanish as well as English as a second language. Teaching English is incorporated throughout the day, and as the grade level increases, so does the use of English in the classroom. My responsibilities vary, but so far I have graded papers, helped first graders with English worksheets, watched the fourth grade class while the teacher was gone, and worked on English flashcards with the first grade. I’ve really been enjoying it so far. It requires lots of Spanish, especially with the younger kids, but I like teaching English. My internship changed because my partner at Esther’s is now going to the Youth Detention Center, and I preferred not to go alone. I miss the kids at Esther’s, but I trust God has a plan for me at Harvard.
Other than the change in internships, things have been pretty normal. It’s been fun catching up and hanging out with everyone. I almost feel like I never had a break just because things fell back into place here so quickly. I’m encouraged by how easy the transition back to Mexico has been thus far and I know it’s because God is with me and is providing the strength I need. Please pray that I would continue experiencing the reality of God’s presence this week and that I would be reminded of His sufficiency.
