This week Kharah, my roommate from CIU, surprised me by sending down a CD.  For a long time I have been begging Kharah to record me a CD of some of my favorite worship songs (she has a great voice!).  She sent me an awesome CD of worship songs, but there was one song I had never heard before – “The Desert Song” by Hillsong.  As I listen to it, the words become more and more powerful.  Below are the lyrics and a video of Hillsong performing it.  If you have time, I would encourage you to read through the lyrics and listen to the song.  I am learning not to evaluate God based on how I feel.  His character is not dependent on my circumstances.  He is good all the time.  On my best days and worst days He is still worthy of praise.  On top of the mountain and in the valley He remains the same.  This song challenges me to worship God for who He is, not because of how I feel.  And it also reminds me that I have to make a choice – “I will bring praise” the lyrics say.  So often I need to preach to myself and remind myself of truth.  God is good.  He is worthy – no matter where I am.

“The Desert Song”
Hillsong

This is my prayer in the desert
And all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides

This is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved of more worth than gold
So refine me, Lord, through the flames

I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

This is my prayer in battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I’ll stand

All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship

This is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I’m filled to be emptied again
The seed I’ve received I will sow
