This week has been really busy.  I have enjoyed my time at Esther’s.  On Wednesday I spent most of the time talking with a girl named Cinthia.  She is ten years old and is new at the home.  She told me that she still doesn’t have any friends there.  We talked for a while and drew pictures together.  Because she is a little older, I have an easier time understanding and communicating with her.  Some of the younger kids are more difficult to understand, especially because they use a lot of slang.  Gonzalo, one of the little boys, steals my heart every time we hang out there because he’s just so cute.  He has big, bright eyes and a gorgeous smile.  I hope he knows that he is loved.  They have been doing lots of construction around Esther’s because they are building a new home.  The old one is really small and kind of rundown.  The new one is much bigger and it looks really nice.  I think it opens next Saturday.  Hopefully I’ll get to go down there for that.

Our WOW times have been kind of crazy.  It’s hard to talk to people you don’t know at all, but we are beginning to meet and form relationships with people around here.  Please continue praying that God would lead us to people and that He would give us boldness and confidence in approaching them and also in the language.

Last Monday on our day off, I went with four teammates to Texas.  We woke up early and took two buses to the border.  After we waited in line and got through security, we walked to the Brownsville bus station.  We took a bus to the mall and hung out there for a while.  What was the best part of the day?  Finding a Chick-fil-A in the mall!!  We were so happy some tears were actually shed!!  After we finished at the mall, we walked about a mile to Target (another great moment) and stocked up on snacks and other necessities.  We discovered a Starbucks in Target, which gave the Chick-fil-A moment a run for its money.  Basically, it was a fun day and a good break.  I absolutely love Mexico, but a little taste (literally) of home did lots of good for the soul!

Please keep us in your prayers.  We are definitely in an established schedule now which is good, but everyone is extremely tired.  It’s hard to sleep at night because it’s so hot even though we have four fans in our room.  God is really working and moving in and through our team.  Pray that He continues to do so and that we will be unified as a group.  Vulnerability and honesty would be great.  Thank you for continually encouraging me.  It is such a blessing to hear from everyone at home.

Remember – He can move the mountains.

  1. Excellent blog! It’s awesome to hear how God is working through you! You are showing His love to the people around you and you are changing their lives for the better! I will pray for your team to become unified! Community is really hard! I could use some prayer for community as well 🙂
